Introducing Polycarbonate

Simport is a plastic molder, using mostly injection technology to make the different laboratory products that we render available to the whole world.

We use a variety of resins for these products. These materials have unique characteristics that make them more suitable for one product over another.

Today, allow me to introduce to you polycarbonate. This resin, once molded, makes products that are extremely strong and rigid. In its virgin form, it is clear so it offers good visibility. It also resists a wide variety of temperatures making it resistant to autoclaving, a feature often demanded in laboratories. It becomes brittle only at -135 C so it can be used for cryogenics without the fear of breakage by shock. This is the toughest of all thermoplastics. Finally, it is non-cytotoxic.

Its chemical resistance is excellent and it will resist alcohols used for surface disinfection. We choose this resin when we need high durability, resistance to shocks, and extreme temperature changes. Our T314 series of   CryoStore™   storage boxes are made of polycarbonate. This produces incredibly resistant boxes, trust me, I put them to the test personally. Covers are crystal clear and they are lab-friendly with easy decontamination or sterilization. We also manufacture our M750   SlideFolder™ with transparent fold-out doors and hinges from this resin. No wonder it is recognized as the best and most durable compared to similar products offered in the market! These are opened and closed, filled and emptied, stacked, dropped, picked up, cleaned, disinfected multiple times a week, and used repeatedly.

Polycarbonate, when only the most robust plastic will do.
